Determination of fatty acids content, global antioxidant activity and energy value of weed seeds from agricultural fields in France.
2016
18 pages; International audience; The ecological consequences of seed size variation have been studied extensively in plants. Curiously, little attention has been paid to the qualitative and quantitative variation of the seed-stored molecules and on their ecological significance. Here, we analysed the oil content and oil composition of ca. 200 weed seed species from agricultural fields in France based on single seed accessions, concentrating on interspecies differences and ignoring within-species variation. The relationships between seed weight, oil %, fatty acids (FAs) and the energetic value of the seed and its antioxidant properties were also investigated. The antioxidant activity could …
Protein and β-ODAP content and their association with yield contributing traits in selected grass pea lines
2009
Eight selected grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) lines were evaluated over three different growing seasons (2005-2008) at the experimental field at the ‘Sparacia farm’ (Cammarata-AG) in Sicily. A randomized complete-block design with three replicates was adopted. 35 viable seeds/m2 of each line were placed at the end of autumn in rows distant 50 cm. After one summer ploughing, 90 kg ha-1 di P2O5 were filled during two harrowing before sowing; later two manual weeds control were performed. Harvest was executed at full maturity of pods (end of the spring). Temperature values and effective rainfall for each season were recorded. Information are presented on the variability in storage seed protei…
Weed seeds ability to emerge on the soil surface
2015
International audience; Annual weeds have to produce seeds each year to maintain their populations. These seeds fallon the soil surface. Seeds exposed to light during their moistening (i.e. caused by rain) bettergerminate than seeds in the darkness (i.e. buried). However, rare studies quantified the unique andcombined effects of light, moisture and burial depth on the germination process. We investigated,in a greenhouse experiment in 2014, the impact of seed moisture (Moistened vs. Dried), lightduring moistening (Darkness vs. Light) and burial depth (Buried vs. Surface) on germination of 12annual weed species contrasted on their seed traits and germination periods (Alopecurusmyosuroides Hud…
Parameterizing the "grassland" module in the multispecific model FlorSys
2013
EAEcolDurCT1; The multispecies model FlorSys can predict the effects of cropping systems on the dynamics of weed communities in annual crops ; however, it is not configured to predict the fate of weeds in permanent cover such as grasslands. We realized the simulation of a weed seed rain in controlled conditions to estimate the percentage of weed seeds intercepted by a grass cover. Parameters of this linear model will be used to develop a new sub model in FlorSys to be able to simulate weed dynamics in temporary grasslands. We used twelve weed species selected on the basis of specific morphological characteristics and observations made in the experimental set up of SOERE ACBB (Observatory En…
